The Ferrari 156 of Wolfgang Von Trips. By Monza Von Tripps was the only driver that could take the title from team mate Phil Hill, but Von Tripps was killed in an accident at the end of the second lap, leaving the championship to Hill.

1961 was also the last Grand Prix at Monza that used the full 6.2 mile circuit that used both bankings.
