Gilles Villeneuve Ferrari 126C2 1/43rd Diecast - Long Beach

$42.99

The 1982 Ferrari 126C2 of Gilles Villeneuve during the US Grand Prix at Long Beach. The car appeared with 2 rear wings as a response to the FOCA teams (notably Williams and Brabham) showing up earlier in the year with their water cooled brakes, that did nothing more then allow the cars to run significantly under weight.

Rules at the time said the cars could top up fluids before getting weighed, so many of the FOCA teams came up with water cooled brakes, that quickly jettisoned all of it's water allowing the car to run underweight, and refill the brakes to make post race inspection minimum weight limits.

Ferrari wanted to show that they could interpret rules liberally as well, and noting the rule book only lists the size of the rear wing, and not the number of rear wings, showed up at Long Beach with the pair wings seen here. Ultimately, Villeneuve was disqualified from his 3rd place finish.
